Compelling SEO Driven Copy for Your Website

So, you have a product or service that you’re passionate about and pretty damn proud of but when you go to write about it, you’re stuck on how to communicate that to customers. That’s okay, you’re the expert in your business, not copywriting. I’ll learn about your business, unique selling points, ideal customers, to craft compelling, SEO driven copy for your website. By SEO driven, I mean content with a purpose, a strategy, words that resonate with people and get noticed by bots. You can’t just write for bots because bots don’t seek out your products/services, humans do. It’s all about finding the balance to create quality copy that ranks well.

SEO is a long-term game- like gardening, by creating content with relevant keywords, working on page titles, meta descriptions and image alt tags, you’re planting the seeds. With the right upkeep, it will blossom into a giant bright yellow sunflower, or in your case, page one of Google.

Tips for best SEO practice for your website:

  • Image titles and alt tags

When uploading images to your media library, please, make sure your image isn’t named something like img19374729043.jpeg. Rename your images to something that relates to your business, eg for a building inspection business in Newcastle, you might name an image “Newcastle Pre-Purchase Building Inspection Report”. You’ll want to do the same for the “alt tag/attribute”. An alt tag is what appears in the place of an image if the page doesn’t load properly. Google places a high value on alt text to determine what the image is and also how it relates to the surrounding text.

  • Keyword stuffing is NOT an SEO strategy

Discovered relevant keywords for your business? Great! Inserting them as every second word on your website copy? Not so great. Keyword stuffing results in a negative user experience and may cause your site to be seen as spam. Your copy needs to make sense.

  • Title tags, meta descriptions and headings

Title tags are the titles of webpages you see in search results. Title tags should be unique for every page on your website. If you’re attempting to do this yourself, try something like this: “Primary Keyword – Secondary Keyword | Business Name”. Meta descriptions are a brief summary of the webpage, the section under the title tag in search results. You should avoid duplicate meta descriptions. Headings (H1 tags), should include your keyword phrase, once (remember, no keyword stuffing). These elements work together (with many other factors) when it comes to SEO and your website’s ranking in Google.
